The coastal waters of the Andaman around Trang have crystal clear water and vivid coloured coral. Large amounts of the area have been declared national parks and there is a plentiful sea life including a wide variety of tropical fish, sharks, manta rays, turtles and even the occasional whale shark.

Depths of 20 metres are standard and visibility is good year round although in the monsoon season of May to October, increased silt flowing out from the rivers may slightly reduce clarity in some areas.

Guide to Trang Dive Sites

Hin Daeng (Red Rock) and Hin Muang (Purple Rock)

This world-class dive site comprises of two underwater mountains are next to each other. They are thought to be one of the best diving sites in the Andaman Sea, although they are a little difficult to find as only the peak of Hin Daeng emerges from the water.

The coral on this site is quite stunning, with red orange and pink colours as well as sea fans. Manta rays and whale sharks frequent this area. Another highlight are some fairly rare species which can be seen such as harlequin ghost pipefish, and long nose hawkish.

Koh Muk

Opposite Hat Chang Lang Beach, this island has vibrant live coral. The Koh Chukka Waen are small islands between Koh Muk and Koh Kradan. They are teeming with both shallow and deepwater corals and many types of fish.

At low tide you can snorkel through the 30 metre long cavern on Koh Muk to the Emerald Cave. Mid way, through the main passage, there is a side cavern off to the left, which leads to a small air pocket where you can surface.

Koh Rok Nai and Koh Rok Nok

These sister islands are separated by a narrow 15 metre deep channel. The best dive is on Koh Rok Nai, starting in a little rocky cove on the northern side. From here it is possible to drift with the flow along a diverse and beautiful coral reef with fantastic fish life. It is also possible to see rare species such as sea horse and frogfish, as well as being one of the best places to see giant clams.
