Daytrips In And Around Chiang Mai
First of all buy yourself a Nancy Chandler Map of Chiang Mai, which is
an essential for finding all those interesting places which you would
otherwise miss (all good book stores stock them or visit
www.nancychandler.net).
Although there is a lot of beautiful countryside
around Bangkok, try to choose a good balance of things to do both in the
city and things outside the city so that you donˇt try to pack to much
driving around into one day. Some of the most interesting things to do in
Chiang Mai are free! Walk around inside the old walled city and see all
the old temples and then walk up Wu Lai Road, which is part of the old
silver district - it is fascinating to see how all the items for sale in
the shops are hand beaten is tiny work shops behind the shops (you can
even hear the sound of the tapping hammers as you walk past).
Ideas
For those longer car trips around the mountain areas of Chiang Mai, be
sure to prepare individually wrapped small toys (new ones or old
favorites) or activity bags to hand out at intervals during the trip. If
you have a chance to go to the Night Bazaar, they could even be items that
relate to the trip such as little costumed dolls.
