Car Hire

If you have an International driving licence then you can hire a car and drive in Thailand. The are English language road signs and a choice of English language maps are commonplace. The maps may not be entirely up to date for Bangkok as many new roads have been constructed in the past few years and there are still many road projects planned or in progress. Although the road system is quite confusing in Bangkok and there are many one way systems not marked on the maps, once you get out of the city it is quite easy to get your sense of direction.

International car hire companies such as Avis and Hertz operate outside Bangkok in Pattaya, Hat Yai, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui Island. Self-drive and chauffeur-driven cars are also widely available.
